*WORK HOURS INCLUDE REMAINING ON-CALL 24 HOURS A DAY 7 DAYS A WEEK AND WORKING OCCASIONAL EXTENDED HOURS INCLUDING EVENINGS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS AND OCCASIONAL OVERNIGHT TRAVEL AS NEEDED.

 

 

I.Qualifications:

 

  • Two years of related work experience in an Information Technology setting or educational/training program.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Satisfactory completion of all requirements established by the Middle River Regional Jail within 1 year of date of employment.

  • Understanding of operations within secured physical environment.

  • Work experience may substitute for education.

  • Successful completion of a criminal records check.

  • Internal candidates must meet qualifications outlined in MRRJ Policy 1.14.

 

II.Basic Skills and Abilities Required:

 

Knowledge of applicable best practices in data and backup management, network administration, and cyber-security. Ability to manage multiple staff, projects, and services simultaneously. Assistance in the production of a budget. Knowledge in planning/evaluating programs and services; in providing the necessary coordination among divisions and units.  Ability to analyze difficult problems/ situations and take an effective course of action; to handle crisis situations requiring tact, diplomacy, understanding, fairness, and good judgment; ability to deal firmly and courteously with staff, inmates, and public. Ability to analyze complex and diverse data. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

III.Preferred Experience:

 

The preferred applicant may possess:

  • Experience in management of Microsoft Management Console, Active Directory, Group Policy, etc.

  • Laptop/Desktop user support and troubleshooting

  • Experience with security surveillance networks and infrastructure

  • Wireless Network Management (Cisco Meraki preferred)

  • Experience in Crystal Reports and ability to design and provide customized reports

  • Management of website, social media platforms, and services

  • Knowledge of data and records retention laws and ability to provide compliance

  • Ability to train and orient staff on Jail Information Technology policy and procedure

  • Experience with asset tracking and MDM

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, and the individual must possess a structured, methodical approach to systems administration

  • Documenting, implementation and improvement of processes and procedure

  • Cisco and Microsoft Certifications a plus

IV.Duties and Responsibilities:

This is an administrative position involving the management and support of information technology resources and personnel at the Jail. The Systems Technician is responsible for directing and training users of technology at the jail and members of the public who utilize the Jail’s resources, the core network and end-user functions of the Jail staff, and support of security network operations at the facility. Establishment of good relationships with the jail staff, inmates, and public is essential. The incumbent has wide latitude for independent judgment in making decisions subject to the Standard Operating Procedures and Executive Orders of the Jail and all applicable laws and standards. Work requires considerable initiative and responsibilities in management of financial activities, planning, budgeting, directing, coordinating, analysis, and development and implementation of numerous Information Technology activities. Under the direction of the Superintendent or designee, the incumbent is responsible for directing staff and civilian personnel as assigned and the training and support of all Jail and public users.  The incumbent has wide latitude of independent judgment in making decisions subject to the general orders of the Jail and all applicable laws.
